Meta used Connect 2026 to showcase a new pair of VR glasses that puts a display, hands-free controls, and the company’s Muse AI agent into a much lighter form factor. The device weighs 100 grams and is expected to launch in spring 2027 for $1,299.
The product takes aim at some of the same ideas explored by Apple with the Vision Pro, but Meta has placed them inside something closer to a conventional pair of glasses. At 100 grams, it is also considerably lighter than the 500-gram Meta Quest 3, according to the company.
Meta VR Glasses Bring Virtual Screens, Movies and Gaming Together

Meta used its demonstrations to show how the glasses could fit into everyday work, media consumption, and gaming.
For productivity, users can pair the glasses with external screens, while the device can also create a virtual keyboard on a nearby flat surface. USB-C provides DisplayPort connectivity as well, allowing the glasses to communicate with compatible external displays and hardware.
Media playback is another part of Meta’s plan. The glasses support spatial audio alongside Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, while an IMAX Enhanced mode is intended to recreate a larger cinema-style presentation. Meta also says users will be able to view 3D films and immersive content through streaming platforms including Disney+.
Meta is not treating the glasses as a cinema device alone. Games are part of the plan. Owners will be able to use Xbox Cloud Gaming and access the existing Meta Quest catalogue. Some titles can run through the cloud. Others will provide the full VR experience.
Full-Body Holograms Could Change How Meta VR Glasses Handle Calls

Meta has also found room for another experiment: video calls with full-body holograms. The feature will come to Meta VR Glasses and Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses. Zuckerberg said that the company had finally “solved the problem of giving you legs.”
That feature changes the idea of a video call. Instead of seeing only a face on a screen, users could appear to occupy the same virtual space as the person they are speaking to. It is an ambitious use of the hardware. So is the rest of Meta’s plan. A virtual keyboard, a private screen for films, cloud gaming, and holographic calls all have to justify a $1,299 device. The answer will come when the glasses reach buyers in spring 2027.
Final Words
Meta’s new VR Glasses are looking like a bold attempt to make VR seem more like a pair of glasses than a computer strapped to your face. The device is also a lot lighter at 100 grams compared to the Meta Quest 3, and its $1,299 price tag puts it in the high-end category. Meta is clearly looking to do more than just another game gadget, with virtual screens, spatial audio, 3D movies, cloud gaming, and even full-body hologram calls.
The real issue is whether it will be useful to the average user. The answer could be related to how well these features perform in actual demonstrations outside the carefully controlled setting. The eyewear is set to go on sale in spring 2027, and the buyer will ultimately determine if this futuristic eyewear is worth the futuristic price.
