After confirming the launch date earlier, POCO has now shared details about the batteries and charging capabilities of its upcoming premium smartphones, the POCO X8 Pro and POCO X8 Pro Max. The two devices are set to debut together on March 17 in India as well as other global markets. Recent disclosures suggest that while the phones belong to the same lineup, certain specifications may vary between regions.

Battery Capacity and Charging Specifications

According to a post from POCO Global on X, the POCO X8 Pro will be equipped with a 6,500mAh battery. The POCO X8 Pro Max, meanwhile, is said to carry a larger 8,500mAh unit. Both models are expected to support fast charging at speeds of up to 100W.

Details shared by POCO India indicate a small difference in the configuration for the Indian market. The POCO X8 Pro will feature the same 6,500mAh battery as the global version. The POCO X8 Pro Max, however, is tipped to arrive in India with a bigger 9,000mAh battery. Charging speeds are said to remain identical, although the Indian version of the X8 Pro will also include support for 27W reverse wired charging.

How the New Models Compare With Previous POCO Phones

When set beside last year’s global POCO X7 Pro, the newer X8 Pro brings a modest rise in battery size, increasing the capacity by 500mAh. The Indian edition of the X7 Pro had already carried a slightly larger 6,550mAh unit. Among POCO’s present top-tier phones sold worldwide, the POCO F7 Pro and F7 Ultra include batteries rated at 5,300mAh and 6,000mAh respectively. In this context, the POCO X8 Pro Max, with an 8,500mAh battery, stands as the company’s most substantial offering in terms of battery capacity. The Indian version of the same device pushes this even further by adopting a larger 9,000mAh cell.

Performance Hardware and Gaming Capabilities

In terms of performance, the POCO X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max are expected to rely on MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 Ultra and Dimensity 9500s chipsets. These processors are likely to deliver strong results in demanding workloads, including gaming as well as tasks such as video editing or rendering. Both phones are confirmed to feature LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. They will also offer 1.5K displays capable of supporting 120fps gameplay in several popular titles, including BGMI, Standoff 2, and CODM.

Taken together, these specifications suggest that the devices are aimed at users who seek performance close to that of premium flagships, along with long battery life and contemporary hardware features, but without the higher price usually attached to top-end smartphones.

POCO X8 Pro series Expected Pricing in India and Market Rivals

According to information shared by tipster Yogesh Brar on the social platform X, the POCO X8 Pro may begin at a price of around ₹35,000 in India. The larger POCO X8 Pro Max is said to start at roughly ₹42,000. By comparison, the earlier POCO X7 Pro, powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra, was introduced in India at ₹27,999. The X8 Pro Max, meanwhile, represents an entirely new model in POCO’s range.

At the reported price, the POCO X8 Pro Max could find itself competing with the iQOO 15R, which sells in India for ₹44,999. The iQOO device uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, a processor regarded as broadly comparable in capability to the MediaTek Dimensity 9500s expected to power the POCO handset. The iQOO 15R carries a smaller 7,600mAh battery, though its charging speed is rated the same at 100W.

In internal testing, the iQOO 15R achieved a score of 3,078,708 on the AnTuTu Benchmark. The POCO X8 Pro Max, according to a promotional teaser on Flipkart, is claimed to reach a slightly higher mark of about 30,10,000 on the same benchmark.

Possible Redmi Origins and Camera Hardware Expectations

Returning to the POCO X8 Pro, the device may find itself competing with the company’s own POCO F7, which comes equipped with the more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset and a larger 7,550mAh battery. In the same price bracket, the iQOO Neo 10 and the OnePlus Nord 5 also stand as alternatives. Both sit close to the ₹35,000 range, giving buyers several choices if their priority is strong performance.

At the same time, earlier reports suggest that these POCO models may in fact be rebranded versions of the Chinese-market Redmi Turbo 5 and Redmi Turbo 5 Max. If this proves accurate, the camera hardware may not be the chief focus of the devices. The Redmi models are said to include a 50-megapixel primary camera paired with an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor on the rear. There is, however, no sign of a dedicated telephoto or periscope lens, a limitation that reduces the range of photographic options available to the user.

Final Words

The POCO X8 Pro series seems to be the most recent effort by the company to blur the border between the upper-midrange and the full-blown flagship. Having unusually large batteries, fast 100W charging, and hardware that is clearly targeted at gamers and heavy users, the devices appear to be targeted at individuals who do not want to be shocked by the wallet cost of high-end smartphones. If the leaked prices hold true, POCO may once again stir up the competitive ₹35,000 – ₹40,000 segment, in which such brands as iQOO and OnePlus are already sharpening their knives.

Naturally, the lack of sophisticated camera equipment implies that photography will not be the main attraction in this case. Rather, stamina and brute velocity seem to be the actual selling features. That is to say, these phones may not be able to substitute your DSLR, but they will easily last you through your typical workday. Provided that POCO sticks to its words, the X8 Pro series may demonstrate that large batteries and fast performance remain a potent marketing formula.
