There are now clearer indications on how Samsung will move on with its foldable smartphones in 2026. A list of recently discovered model numbers and development names, which are linked to entries in the GSMA IMEI database, indicates that the company continues to undertake a cautious and lengthy testing process of its next devices. Collectively, they point to the larger direction Samsung is taking with foldable displays and the assumptions that are informing that direction.

Early Database Listings Reveal Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8

The documents surfaced are of three devices which are under development. Two of them seem to hold a place of special significance: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. They are registered in the database as SM-F976U and SM-F776U, names they were given during the internal trials, and the phones had not yet been given their final marketing names.

These entries, which are not remarkable in themselves, silently indicate the extent to which these products are ready and the pace at which the company is ready to go beyond testing to launching. The fact that these model numbers have the letter U in the end is not incidental. It identifies the devices as American versions.

A very simple system has been followed by Samsung in this respect: the suffix B is used on models which are sold on a larger scale throughout the world, N on those which are manufactured in South Korea, and U or U1 on hardware which is ready to be used in the United States.

Based on this minor yet significant detail, it is apparent that the phones are already beyond the experimental phase, and are already in the network testing and regional adaptation phase of the US. In this regard, the leaked entries can be interpreted as the initial stages of the finished products that will be ultimately put in front of the consumers.

Inside Samsung’s Internal Naming Strategy

The codenames themselves also have some order to them. The foldable phones created by Samsung are developed in a consistent alphabetical pattern. The Galaxy Z Fold line and Galaxy Z Flip line devices are named after the letters Q and B respectively. In such a way, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was called internally Q7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 B7.

The fact that the database contains the numbers Q8 and B8 leaves no doubt as to their identity. It depicts a company that is working in a systematic way, year after year, without interrupting its pace, and determined to raise the quality of its hardware by a slight but calculated degree with each new launch.

A Third Foldable Enters the Picture

Another fact in the leaks is worth mentioning: the emergence of a second Fold, with a model number SM-F971U and a codename of H8. This new model, positioned next to Samsung’s traditional two foldables, is an indication that the company is ready to expand the form and functionality of its foldable line.

There is still limited information on what this model will be, but even its existence suggests an attempt to create three different offerings in the foldable segment in 2026 instead of using one formula every year.

What the Leaks Suggest About Samsung’s 2026 Launch Timeline

Combined, these indicators are consistent with the traditions of release that Samsung has developed. This coincides with the traditional events of the company, the Unpacked, which usually take place in mid to late summer, and an unveiling in July to August 2026 seems probable. The fact that these devices have come out early in the IMEI database shows that the development is proceeding in a systematic manner, and the engineering process is far ahead of the announcement.

When it comes to Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, which are coming, they will not be just the improvements upon the previous models. They will be expected to be a point when foldable screens will no longer be called experimental. The use of faster processors, stronger and more reliable materials and artificial intelligence being more deeply integrated in the day to day functions are all bound to continue making these phones one of the most advanced in the market.

In the case of Samsung, 2026 can be a very favorable year to its foldable aspirations. That is supported by the existence of the unnamed Fold model, which was allegedly meant to oppose the Apple plans in this area. Simply put, the year is proving to be the one that will see two Fold devices and one Flip device released to the market and with them a better explanation of where Samsung thinks the future of smartphones is.

Final Words

As the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 continue to be expected over performers, parading on the verge of their certain summer release, it is the enigmatic H8 that is taking the backstage stage. Is it a budget folder? A tri-fold experiment? The response by Samsung to whatever Apple is cooking? Your guess is as good as ours, and that is really the fun part.

What is evident is that Samsung is not happy to just keep iterating, they are multiplying. Releasing three foldables in a single year is an indication that the company believes the foldable future is not a niche, but the mainstream. It is yet to be determined whether consumers are willing to literally unfold their wallets to get a third option.
