BlueSky, a decentralized social media platform, has made its debut on the Apple App Store as a new online app. The platform has gained attention as former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey developed it. Many see it as a potential competitor to Twitter. Interestingly, Dorsey had hinted at the BlueSky project back in 2019 when he was still at the helm of Twitter.

Unfortunately, his decentralized social network project did not come to fruition due to his ties to Twitter. But Jack continued to pursue it after stepping down as the CEO of Twitter. He persevered, and the BlueSky project eventually came to fruition, resulting in the launch of a new social media application.

Is Twitter in the Danger of Getting Replaced by Bluesky?

Latest figures show that Twitter is expected to experience a significant decline in its user base, with an estimated loss of around 33 million users worldwide by the year 2024. It is still too early to determine if BlueSky can effectively replace Twitter. Presently, Twitter is already facing competition from another decentralized social media platform, Mastodon.

Reports suggest that Mastodon is gaining a substantial number of users due to adjustments made by Elon Musk on Twitter. The migration of users to Mastodon largely consists of tech enthusiasts. They felt dissatisfied with Twitter’s decision to remove third-party applications such as Tweetbot

As a result, the platform may not appeal to casual users who simply want a platform to express their views. So many might stick with Twitter instead. BlueSky, the latest decentralized social media network, takes a different approach compared to Mastodon. It relies on the enthusiasm of its users to attract more users.

Currently, the platform is accessible by invitation only, which has generated a great deal of interest among potential users. Unlike Mastodon, BlueSky is less complicated and easier to use. However, it remains uncertain whether BlueSky will continue to operate on an invite-only basis in the future.

How is BlueSky Different from Twitter?

BlueSky offers features that are similar to those found on other social media platforms such as Twitter. These include engagements, comments, usernames, and profile photos. However, what sets BlueSky apart is its unique AT Protocol, which focuses on performance, interoperability, algorithmic transparency, and account portability.

This makes it more convenient for users to transfer their account information to another BlueSky provider. The AT Protocol of BlueSky grants its users greater control over the content shared on the network, says The Verge. Nevertheless, since it is a relatively new platform, it currently lacks several features available on other social media sites.

These include GIFs, polls, and hashtags. Additionally, there are no available web or app versions for Windows, Android, Mac, or iPad. However, the BlueSky development team will address these shortcomings, especially if they intend to compete with Twitter.

Twitter Has Introduced Bookmark Counter on the iOS

Twitter has introduced a new feature called Bookmark Counter. It displays the number of times users have saved a particular tweet in their metrics. This feature is currently available only on the iOS platform and provides users with information on their account statistics. This can serve as a confidence booster for account owners.

The functionality of Twitter’s Bookmarks feature is akin to how the platform displays users’ interactions, such as likes, retweets, and replies. With Bookmarks, individuals can easily save tweets for personal viewing at a later time, eliminating the need to send them to themselves or share them with friends.

How Does the Twitter Bookmark Counter Work?

Twitter has introduced a new feature exclusively for the iOS version of its app. It enables users to keep track of how many have bookmarked their tweets. The Bookmark Counter feature provides users with an additional metric to measure their engagement on the platform, in addition to the standard likes, retweets, replies, and other tweet metrics.

Twitter has announced that it will receive data from its team, and it will soon extend to other platforms, such as Android and Web versions of social media. The company plans to make the bookmark counter available to the public, indicating the exact number of bookmarks each tweet has received. This will only apply to tweets that people have bookmarked.

Only the Owner Can See Twitter Bookmarks

Twitter has announced the addition of a new feature called “Bookmarks,” which allows users to save tweets privately. The company has emphasized that the saved tweets will remain private and won’t reveal the identity of the person who has bookmarked them. This move ensures the privacy and security of users, as disclosing such information could potentially lead to stalking or other privacy concerns.

Final Words

Twitter is facing challenges in managing its operations, as evidenced by a recent outage. Some experts and analysts also believe that Elon Musk’s leadership and frequent changes to the platform may be contributing to these struggles. There are concerns about the company’s financial stability and the possibility of bankruptcy.

Twitter is continuing to innovate and enhance its social media platform by introducing new features under Twitter 2.0. The company is determined to provide its users with the latest experiences in short-form content creation. One of the most significant upcoming changes is Twitter’s decision to go open-source, a move that has been endorsed by its Chief Executive Officer.

However, the CEO has also cautioned that some developers may be disappointed when this change arrives. Despite this, Twitter is committed to delivering a superior social media experience to its users. The Twitter Blue subscription provides users with access to the latest and advanced features on the platform, such as the ability to edit tweets and use the long-form format.

While this may appear to be a minor update, it can be a valuable tool for influencers and other users who want to track the engagement of their tweets in addition to the existing analytics available.
