Whether they are browser-based strategy games or app based, these strategy games emphasize more on strategic and tactical planning. In most cases, the planning part involves multiple units rather than the quick reflexes.

In a layman’s language, we would say that strategy games are video genre games that emphasize more on skillful thinking and meticulous planning to achieve the desired victory. Players make autonomous yet skillful decisions that play a major role in the outcome of the game.

Their origin

For quite a long time, these strategy games have been the tools used to sharpen minds, avenue to hone strategic business skills, and a way to bond with friends.

The era of strategy games kicked off with simple board games which provided a perfect opportunity to develop life skills. Today, we have the magnificent sprawling digital battles which brings together thousands of competitors from across the world.

To understand better how we got to this complex part of strategy games, it would be vital if we took a short journey through the massive history of the game.

Let’s start with the meaning of strategy games:

The emphasis is always on long term planning and skillful thinking to realize the desired victory. So a strategy game is mainly about the decision of each player. The players’ decisions have greater influence in the final outcome of the game.

Strategy games exist in different types. However, almost all of them fall into one of these two categories.

Abstract Strategy Games

Whatever the theme of the game you are playing, the style of play does not change. Basically, that is what abstract strategy games are all about. As a player, you can decide to apply different themes to a single game, but even that will not alter the way the game is played.

So if it is Chess you are playing, and you believe your Knight is getting into the battle or being used to scuttle the movement and plans of the enemy, the piece doesn’t move differently from the normal movement.

Simulation Strategy Games

Unlike the abstract strategy games, here the theme matters more than anything else. The games have been designed to depict a real life scenario as accurately as possible.

While the aim isn’t always to mimic any real life scenario, the game will always try to be true to real life in all ways.

Now that we understand the genesis of all these board games, we need to find out whether they are really fun to play.

Are strategy games fun?

Almost all games are primarily for fun, and it would be difficult to play a game that is dead boring. That said, strategy games go beyond providing fun to imparting vital life skills.

So if all you are looking for in a game is endless fun with little thinking, the strategy game isn’t for you. The main reason i believe strategy games are fun to play is because they require the player to:

  • Make interesting and meaningful decisions
  • Provide  sense of balancing
  • Make some difficult decisions during the game

Takeaway;

There are many strategy games to choose from. Whether they are fun or not, depends on every gamer’s taste and preferences. Maybe you should try out the political browser game where you create your nation, and make those tough decisions. I bet it would be fun.
