If your chosen career path is to find success as a female entrepreneur, then you must do everything by the books. It’s a legal requirement for all businesses to have some form of insurance before they can begin trading. It’s there to protect the company from a range of scenarios that could be detrimental financially or to their reputation, but also to protect employees.

There are many different types of cover business owners can include in their insurance package; however, not all things will be necessary. While certain types of cover are a must for any business, others will only be relevant to certain operations. Below are a few examples of the kind of cover you can get and how they might be necessary for your business.

Professional or General Liability Insurance

This kind of cover is a must, and in most places, it is a non-negotiable cover that businesses need to have. Its purpose is to protect the business from legal battles that may occur if a client or customer wants to sue over incomplete work or if they feel as though a mistake that your business has made has resulted in them losing money. It will help to cover the costs of legal fees that you may incur as a result of these suits. It is easy to find the right type of liability insurance you need for your business wherever you are based, so there is no excuse not to have it. You don’t want your entire career to come crashing down because you didn’t get it. Plus, if you look in the right places, you might even be able to save some money. For example, if your business is based in Texas, you could seek out specific Texas liability insurance rather than standard liability insurance and save money.

Commercial Vehicles

If you use your car or have a separate vehicle that you use for business purposes, this must be covered in your insurance. Any automobile needs to be insured to be out of the road legally anyway, but if you’re using a vehicle for commercial use, there are other aspects of this insurance cover you might need.

For example, if you need to have repair work on your commercial car, your insurance can help to cover or contribute to these costs and any other expenses you have had to pay out for alternative travel — or if there is an issue with another uninsured driver or accidental damage.

Workers Compensation

If you have employees, you may be legally required to include worker’s compensation as part of your cover — most states do — but even if your state doesn’t include this law, it’s still worth getting. This cover will help you to support your employees if they are involved in an accident at work if a situation arises that results in lost wages. It also supports their family if they die by contributing to funeral costs or lost income and medical benefits.

Credit Insurance

This kind of cover can protect your business if a customer/client has been put into insolvency and therefore can’t pay their outstanding invoices or debts to you. Even if a customer hasn’t been in touch to tell you this has happened but has still not paid their invoices to you months after the due date, you can contact your insurance provider and they can help to cover the lost costs while you undergo any legal disputes with the customer.
