Recently Xiaomi, India’s leading smartphone manufacturer launched Redmi Note 12 5G. It is the 1st 5g phone of the year for Xiaomi. As per the company officials, they are offering a host of attractive features with a whole new design different from the earlier note as well as the Redmi series. Redmi note 12 5G is the first 5G smartphone that will feature the latest Qualcomm chipset, the 4th Gen processor.

This phone offers a high refresh rate Amoled design, a larger display and 3 Camera setup having a 48 MP primary camera. We have checked out this smartphone in our studio and created a detailed review, which you will get to read here. Therefore without a do let’s check out the Xiaomi Redmi note 12 review.

Design

As we know the Redmi note 12 5G is the sub-brand under the parent company Xiaomi. As the Redmi series is made to provide the best value for money smartphones to budget customers. Keeping that in mind the body of the Redmi note 12 5G is designed however, it is similar to its bigger siblings Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G.

This phone has a unibody design with a polycarbonate body having a fine finish. The design looks premium and attracts lesser fingerprints. While it has a balanced weight of 188 grams and feels quite big in the hands. It has a dimension of 165.88mm x 76.21mm x 7.98mm while the display has the protection of gorilla glass 3.

The punch-hole display of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G gives some sort of premium looks to this smartphone. While people who prefer small or handy smartphones may feel difficulty handling this phone.

Display

The Redmi note 12 5G offers a bright 6.67 inches FHd+ super AMOLED display. The screen offers a peak brightness of 1200 nits which is quite good for outside readability. One of the highlighted features we loved about the display is its high refresh rate. It has a 120 Hz refresh rate vibrant display of 240 Hz touch response rate.

We found out that the Super AMOLED display shows accurate colours with vibrant views even watching from different angles. Additionally, it is quite exciting to watch the 100 DCI-P3 colour gamut and high brightness offers accurate colours even in sunlight. Therefore we never faced any difficulties reading anything in direct sunlight. In our rigorous testing, we found the brightness from a minimum of 7 nits to 816 nits at its max range. There is hardly any colour shift with a varied range of viewing angles of 180 degrees. If we compare the quality of the display it is definitely better than its previous version and offers deep black and bright white. The contrast ratio of the display is 4500000:1 which offers a crispy display quality. Whereas the HDR content is a delight for our eyes and they produce punchy colours on the screen which will be loved by the majority of smartphone buyers.

Additional features such as blue light filter, reading mode, sunlight mode, etc come very handy and fulfil their purpose very well.

Performance

Talking about performance the Redmi note 12 5G is the first smartphone which is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 processor. It is an octa-core 6nm efficient processor that claims optimum performance with a long-lasting battery having dual sim dual 5G capabilities.

Being the latest 4th gen processor by snapdragon, we saw a significant improvement in performance and long-lasting battery performance.

In our daily life testing it doesn’t show any trace of slowdown. The opening of commonly used apps such as Chrome, Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, etc opened without any delay. In most cases, the Redmi Note 12 5G beats its competitors by a respectable margin. Though while testing the smartphone for running synthetic benchmarks such as 3D Mark, Antutu and GFXBench it got warm but not exceptionally.

Games such as Call of Duty run on high frame rates which is hardly offered by the smartphones in this price segment. The frame rate was around 55FPS on call of Duty Mobile with a stability percentage of 93%. The heating test shows a trait of optimum temperature that was quite usable during our testing. The use of double graphite sheet for cooking kept the temperature under control.  Therefore we can say that in performance it is one of the leading smartphones right now. These numbers are quite good as per the price we pay for Redmi Note 12 5G.

Redmi Note 12 5G Camera

This Redmi note 12 5G camera is equipped with a triple camera setup. The primary camera has a 48 Megapixel sensor with f 1,8 aperture, while the other two cameras are 8MP Ultra-Wide Camera f/2.2 aperture and 2MP Macro Camera f/2.4 aperture.

The primary 48MP shooter offers decent quality photos with crispy and punchy colours. In most cases, the camera performed very well and produced vibrant images under bright sunlight. While taking pictures in challenging conditions such as in low light the picture quality drops significantly. Though the grains were visible but not much for the price we pay to buy this smartphone. Night photos of Redmi Note 12 5G came out hazy and don’t separate the bright and lit areas in an image very well.

Talking about the selfie camera of the Redmi Note 12 5G, it has a 13 Mp camera with f/2.5 aperture. The photos it takes are above average and justify the price range in which it comes. The colours are AI generated and create an unnatural whiteness after processing. Additionally, the beautify feature is preloaded while using the front camera for the first time. In this price range, we cannot expect a selfie camera like flagship devices too.

Battery and Additional features of Redmi Note 12 5G

As the Redmi Note 12 5G is powered by the latest 4 Gen 1 Snapdragon processor by Qualcomm.it is powered by a huge 5000mAh polymer battery with 33W fast charging. The company movies the 33w fast charger inside the box too which is a  great deal for the buyers. The latest processor offers leading performance with bumped-up power efficiency to provide a longer battery life than its previous versions.

The charging time is 67 minutes from 0- 100% with the native 33w fast charger. The battery performance of this smartphone is superb and do deserve our respect in this domain. With the double graphite cooling Redmi Note 12 5g easily lasts for a day with average usage and is even left with some juice to see another day.

Conclusion

Without any doubt, Xiaoami with its Redmi Note 12 5g has launched a capable contender in the smartphone market. The features its offers with powerful specifications are quite commendable. The only brand that is a major competitor is Realme. The beautiful Super AMOLED display with a higher 120Hz refresh rate, 11 Dual 5G bands, Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 processor, long-lasting battery and robust build quality is the strongest point of his smartphone. While the major drawback is its camera, the camera underperforms in challenging light conditions while the selfie camera produces more unnatural AI-generated photos.

The Redmi Note 12 5g With a price of INR 17999 with card discounts it is quite a worthy smartphone to buy with the best mix of all standard features of a smartphone. With the trust of Xiaomi with the latest 4gen 1 Snapdragon chip it becomes a good choice for most of the users in this price range.
