Amazon is positioning its latest tablets as more capable alternatives to its earlier budget devices. The new Alexa-branded range includes three models, with the 12 Pro sitting at the top. It represents a substantial performance upgrade over the Fire Max 11, delivering three times the CPU speed and nine times the GPU performance, according to Amazon.

The device runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 8400 chipset. The launch also marks a change in how Amazon presents its tablet business. The company began with the Kindle Fire before removing “Kindle” from the branding to separate its tablets from dedicated e-readers.

The Alexa name signals a stronger emphasis on artificial intelligence, while the new devices offer a more complete Android experience. Google Play support means users can install applications without relying solely on Amazon’s app marketplace. Greater capability, however, comes at a higher price.

Alexa Tablet 12 Pro Focuses on Reading, Battery Life and Display Quality

The 12 Pro features a 12-inch screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio, accommodating reading, web browsing and video viewing.

Battery life is a strong point of Amazon’s Alexa 12 Pro. The tablet can run videos for up to 16 hours, while its reading mode extends endurance to 20 hours. This mode also blocks notifications and cuts blue light. Readers can adjust the screen to show natural colours, a paper-like tint or grayscale.

The display deserves attention, too. Amazon offers a Nanomatte edition for people who want to read without the glare that often makes glossy screens uncomfortable. Corning produces the specially etched glass, which helps maintain visibility in both bright indoor settings and outdoor light.

Alexa 12 Pro Pricing Starts at $500, With Premium Configurations Available

Buyers must weigh these benefits against the price. The regular Alexa 12 Pro costs $500 and includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Nanomatte models start at $550 with identical memory. A higher-end configuration costs $680, offering 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Amazon has equipped its latest tablets with aluminium bodies, matching the construction used in its newer Kindle readers. The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro measures just 6.5mm thick and weighs 550g. Its USB-C connection supports data transfers of up to 5Gbps and can send video to an external display through DisplayPort.

The Pro also offers tools for students and professionals. Its optional keyboard costs $150 and connects directly to the tablet. The updated interface allows users to work with multiple applications on screen at once.

For handwritten notes, Amazon offers a separate stylus priced at $90. The USI 2.0 accessory attaches magnetically and charges without a cable. It recognises tilt and 4,096 pressure levels. Combined with Nanomatte glass, it also offers a less slippery surface for writing.

Alexa Tablet 11 Trades Premium Features for a Lower Price

The standard Alexa Tablet 11 takes a different approach. Its 11-inch, 16:10 screen lacks the matte option and refreshes at 90Hz, compared with 120Hz on the Pro.

Portability comes at the centre of Amazon’s Alexa Tablet 8, which weighs just 329g. Its 8.7-inch screen has a resolution of 1,340 × 800 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 180ppi. The larger models manage roughly 280ppi, so text and images will appear less sharp on this compact device.

The Alexa Tablet 11 offers a better balance of screen quality and price. Its pixel density nearly matches the Pro, but Amazon fits it with two speakers rather than the Pro’s four Dolby Atmos units.

Performance is another compromise. The 11 uses MediaTek’s MT8189, an eight-core processor clocked at up to 2GHz. Although it falls well behind the Pro’s Dimensity 8400, its 8GB of RAM should help it outperform older Fire tablets with just 2GB or 3GB. Storage options cost $330 for 64GB and $380 for 128GB. Its USB-C 2.0 port lacks video output, while battery life reaches 15 hours of video playback.

Alexa Tablet 8 Targets Buyers Who Prioritise Portability

Amazon’s smallest Alexa tablet offers several configurations to suit different budgets. The 4GB/64GB version costs $230, while doubling the storage raises the price to $280. Buyers who want 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage must pay $300. All versions use MediaTek’s MT8189 processor and charge through USB-C 2.0. Amazon claims up to 14 hours of video playback. A Kindle Paperwhite remains lighter, weighing 214g with its smaller 7-inch screen.

There is another cost to consider: advertising. The Alexa Tablet 8 and 11 display lockscreen ads by default. Removing them costs an extra $20. The Pro includes no such restriction.

US and UK Availability Dates Confirmed for Amazon’s Alexa Tablets

Amazon plans to begin US shipments on October 14, with UK deliveries following on October 19. Every model includes Alexa+, which handles natural conversation without a wake phrase. Its optional screen-analysis feature remains disabled until users activate it.

Final Words

The new Alexa tablets from Amazon are a big improvement from the company’s affordable Fire line, with improved performance, Google Play access and AI-powered features. For those who prefer to read, enjoy entertainment and productivity without having to immediately grab a laptop, the Alexa 12 Pro seems to be a promising choice. In the meantime, the Alexa Tablet 11 and Tablet 8 are also affordable options but users will have to accept their hardware limitations.

The pricing model may be a challenge for Amazon. The 12 Pro is priced at $500, which is a stiff competition for other tablets on the market. The smaller models have a small downside as well: unlocking the lockscreen advertisements is not free of charge. In the name of convenience, it appears, comes a cost, and in this case, it’s the cost of paying not to see as much advertising.

US delivery starts October 14, with delivery to the UK starting October 19. It will be up to the consumer to determine whether or not Alexa’s new tablets will be a worthwhile purchase due to their enhanced features.
