Sydney-based pet marketplace, PetsForHomes, has just announced the debut of a KYC verification tool for breeders, the first of its kind in Australia. The implemented KYC (Know Your Customer) biometric system helps instantly verify the identity of breeders and buyers and protect them from dealing with bogus sellers and unethical breeders. The same technique is employed by the cryptocurrency world to validate the personal data of their users and clients.

PetsforHomes’ PR Manager, Kate Teng, has said that they are working to improve transparency within the pet marketplace. They initially began by being the sole website for breeder reviews so that breeders could be held accountable for every transaction. With this government-level certification, scammers who sell fake or sickly pets.

Sellers who undergo KYC verification will be able to prove that they are who they say they are. They will receive a badge on their profiles to show that they are trustworthy, and their breeder reviews will affirm that the experience of dealing with them is legitimate. Furthermore, all sellers on the site are required to only have dogs from verified and registered breeders, an added precaution to make sure that dogs don’t come from puppy farms wherein dams are overbred in inhumane conditions.
