Caltrop or water chestnut is famously called singhara. Singhara is a winter fruit, but its by-product, singhara atta, is found around the year.

Singhara is grown underwater. Its fruit is sun-dried and then ground to make flour out of it. It is primarily used as a fasting food. It can also be used in a variety of dishes.  It not only enriches the taste of any dish but ensures a healthy diet.
