Gaming is more than just a loved hobby; it is a phenomenon that has taken the world by storm. When the first games were beginning to be released to the public, they met with disapproval as it was thought they were unproductive and the source of many behavioural problems in children. In the present day, attitudes have simmered, and we now understand that these views were mistaken. It is a testament to the strength of the industry that, despite the industry’s origins, just under half of the world’s population are gamers. As gaming is now more popular than ever, there’s going to be a constant influx of new players that are getting into the scene.

Those new gamers will be rightfully wondering where on Earth they can get started as there are a few different platforms when it comes to enjoying video games. During the lockdowns brought by the recent global pandemic, many people would have utilised these platforms to play games, which would have proved as a refuge during this period of isolation. In addition to gaming, people would likely have enjoyed other activities such as online gambling, these online slots are a good option, but gaming would have been the one activity that the world turned to as a console or PC can typically be found in every home.

The first thing that those who are looking to get into gaming should do is consider their budget. While gaming is affordable to people on virtually all budgets, it should be noted that a higher amount of money will offer a better gaming experience in terms of visuals and feel. This is because of the greater amount of technology that can be purchased, though some may argue that this is not conducive to having a good gaming experience, which is also true.  What people will need to decide is if having a better performing system is worth the extra cash. If people decide it is, then they have three main options to choose from, including a gaming PC, or a PlayStation 5 or Xbox One. If on a lower budget, then a console from the previous generation would be more suited.

When it comes to choosing the platform that is used to play games on, it comes down to the attitude a person has towards gaming. If they genuinely think that they will love it and will play games for a long time to come, it might make more sense to invest in a gaming PC as these can last for years and be upgraded when parts fall behind current game performance. For more casual players, a console or even a handheld console would be preferred. This is because they are generally much more affordable which means less of a commitment, and they are also plug in and play, meaning people can enjoy games straight away, compared to a gaming PC where various software needs to be downloaded.

Essentially, the best platform for gaming will depend on budget and attitude towards gaming itself. Those who have a high budget and want to play games for many years should get a gaming PC, while those who want a less committed, more affordable option should purchase a console.
