Social media is a great way to get attention for your business for free or very cheap. But, depending on the business and the social media site you’re on, your social media content strategy may change. So if you’re looking for more information on how to market on social media, keep reading because your social media marketing strategy will differ based on which site you’re on.

Instagram

Instagram is unique because it is solely focused on images, and captions are not typically paid attention to. Therefore, Instagram is one of the best places to advertise your business for free if you sell finished products that have some sort of beauty factor (i.e., bakeries, florists, etc.). If you have one of these businesses, your social media content strategy should be based on posting an example of your finished product with a watermark or some sort of distinction somewhere that is noticeable but does not cover the main feature.

If your business does not have some sort of beautiful finished product, one common method of garnering attention is posting about the process and showing your hard work with an inspirational message. Both of these types of posts are ideal because they cater to the younger generation, which makes up a huge portion of Instagram’s active user base. Any other ways that you can connect with people age 34 and younger can also work, but make sure you focus on the image since it will have the biggest impact.

Facebook

Facebook is quite a bit different from Instagram. On Facebook, the type of social media marketing strategy that works best revolves around website articles for the most part. This makes it ideal for businesses in exciting industries or businesses that are entirely online, like e-commerce. The first group, companies in exciting industries, can post news articles about the technology they use and tie it into their business with a short blurb about it. Most people will likely catch the headline and not actually read the article, but they will read the caption that you put along with it, and that can help advertise your business.

Businesses that deal exclusively online can also create great informational pages and articles to post on Facebook. These types of articles can get a lot of shares and bring a bunch of eyes to your business. Keep in mind that Facebook tends to skew older than Instagram, so the type of content you’re producing should focus more on relating with later millennials rather than closer to gen Z.

Tik Tok

Tik Tok seems to have taken the world by storm lately, and it has made even big companies tons of money. Unlike the others on this list, Tik Tok focuses on videos, which can be great for labor-intensive businesses, companies with presentable finished products, or anyone in an exciting industry. Also, due to this format, you need to have branding in the video somewhere and a link in your bio. Otherwise, customers won’t know where to find you. Tik Tok skews even younger than Instagram and is super popular among college students, so keep that in mind because not all businesses can have goods or services at the right price for this average consumer.

If your business is labor-intensive, showing a time-lapse or a step in the process can be really effective in drawing in customers. If your final product is something satisfying or nice to look at, showcasing it in a video from different angles while talking about it can be really effective. Finally, if your industry is really exciting, you can just talk to the camera about what your business does, and people will be drawn in.

Twitter

Twitter is all about being profound or funny in as few characters as possible. Occasionally images or videos can do all of the talking, but on Twitter, the caption is usually the most important. So, how to market on this social media platform? This is the type of place where you want to share something that is hard to believe. If you have any statistics that are hard to believe, post them on Twitter. If you can make a joke and tie in your service, you have the opportunity for your business to blow up on Twitter. Even if it is just a bad pun or a reference to a meme, you can still be successful if it makes people laugh, even just a little bit.

If you can make your business relevant to anything that is occurring in the world today, you can post about that too. Twitter is typically very topical, so financial advisors, law firms, and other industries that are practically always relevant can do really well on Twitter.
