OnePlus is preparing to add another series of smartphones to its Indian portfolio, the company disclosed on Thursday. The first model in the range will carry the name OnePlus N6, and a newly published microsite offers an early glimpse of its design along with the colours in which it is expected to arrive.

The announcement comes shortly after reports suggested that OnePlus was working on a fresh family of handsets aimed at the entry-level market. According to those claims, several devices in the N lineup may be sold below the price of the recently introduced OnePlus Nord CE 6 Lite, which at present remains the least expensive smartphone the company offers in India.

OnePlus has put up a microsite for its next smartphone. The page stops short of naming the device outright, yet its title leaves little doubt that India will get it as the OnePlus N6. The company also makes clear that it will lead a new N series. At the same time, it offers an early look at the phone’s shape and the colours buyers can expect.

Design, Availability, and What Remains Under Wraps

The OnePlus N6 will reach customers through Amazon in India. Buyers will at least have a choice between black and green finishes. The phone carries a flat back and straight edges. Its camera housing rises from the upper part of the rear panel. OnePlus places the power key and volume buttons on the right and leaves the opposite side bare. Much else remains unknown. The company has yet to disclose the launch date, price, hardware, or features, though those details will likely appear as the release draws nearer.

Reports Hint at Aggressive Pricing for the OnePlus N6 Series

The announcement follows reports from only a few days ago that OnePlus intended to bring a new N series to India. The first model, now known to be the OnePlus N6, may arrive as early as July. A tipster also claims that several phones in the lineup could sell for less than Rs. 20,000, placing them firmly in the budget segment.

If that proves correct, the N series may take over the role now filled by the Nord CE Lite range. It would become the cheapest way to buy a OnePlus phone in India. At present, that place belongs to the OnePlus Nord CE 6 Lite. The company introduced it on May 7 with a starting price of Rs. 20,999. The base version includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Final Words

The OnePlus N6 promises to be an interesting new chapter in the brand’s budget aspirations in India. OnePlus has not revealed a lot of details so far, but the initial design leak and price suggestions indicate that the company is ready to go head to head with the budget smartphone market. But for the moment, the OnePlus N6 is more akin to a movie trailer, showing us the main cast but concealing the story.

The buyers are aware of the colours, the design, even where to buy it, but the specifications and price are yet to come. In the meantime, smartphone enthusiasts will have to learn the old-fashioned art of waiting, a trait that technology launches don’t tend to promote.
