Welcome to “what is going on” sort of story! In the last quarter of every year, I take a step back and think of some predictions in the tech field which might turn out useful in the upcoming years. However, there are certain predictions I am still waiting to come true among the few years down the line. I mean you can’t have them all at once! So are you ready to uncover what future might bring to the programming world?

Being one of the most dynamic industries worldwide, software development is one such space that has grown fanatically. Whether we are talking about astrophysics or biological systems, automation, the field has brought nerve-cracking solutions like never before. In spite of their need, these software systems are, inherently vulnerable. Why you may ask? Well, we cannot vouch for the viability of a current Software Development trends as it has the propensity to change overnight.

1. Everything is on the Cloud

2018-19 has already been a great year for cloud vendors. Right from startups to medium size, large enterprises, government organizations, healthcare, mining, banks, insurance every sector is trying to put their hands on the cloud. By now if you haven’t tried using the cloud, 2020 is the best time to give it a try! Most of the big cloud providers like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google offer free credits to give hands-on experience in the cloud. Google is the most generous in this respect: it offers 300 USD free credit for one year.

It may quite interest you to know that Google is driving the cloud-native computation foundation to standardize cloud operations. In addition to this, Google intends to make cloud migration easier so that companies can later switch. 2020 will see a lot more acquisition and merging. In addition to this, startups will come with new ideas and innovations such as multi-cloud services. It seems like there is a neck to neck fight among the cloud vendors, where companies can receive profit from reduced prices and more innovations.

2. Living beyond Bitcoin

Have you been following Bitcoin so far? Yes, No, maybe- but one thing I know is that you must have heard of sudden rise and fall in the value of Bitcoin previous year. Well, I won’t be talking much about Bitcoin or Ethereum here but the technology behind cryptocurrencies – Blockchain.

Earlier, Blockchain was limited to the finance industry but it is now moving to other sectors as well including healthcare, logistic, public administration, outsource software development and so more. In simple words, Blockchain is a series of non-changeable data records that can be stored and managed by a bunch of computers. So one no longer needs to do it by a single entity. Moreover, developers seem to be building secure and decentralization solutions to real-world problems regarding different industries.

3. Low-Code

The usage of low code is no surprise as it seems to be used by a wide range of organizations to build a variety of applications. However, there are businesses still find themselves difficult to use low-code for core and mission-critical apps because they’re a bit concerned regarding will it scale or is it capable enough to handle mission critical-workloads, does it support security, compliance and transaction volume requirements? Instead of wasting your time and energy on asking around whether low-code has potential or not. You must think of which low-code platform you must concentrate on.

4. AI as a Solution

The onset of AI services is no breaking news. But the way it has been adopted and evolved across the globe is certainly is. Over the years, businesses are adopting such technology in their software to offer a little extra to their customers. There is no denying in the fact, artificial intelligence has the potential to provide a competitive edge over competitors especially when integrated with technologies such as machine learning and deep learning.

Moreover, chatbots have become a norm for every website or mobile app developed. With chatbots, AI technology has replaced human customer service executives. As of now, it is assumed that 2020 will be the year of fewer humans and more chatbots. Maximum accuracy, reliability, and speed are what you get in the end.

5.  Internet of Things – Connecting Devices, Enhancing Accessibility

Whether you recall top software development trends of 2018 or 2019 or 2020, IoT manages to top the charts. The tech seems to have certainly made its way reaching individual’s homes such as Alexa but does that mean we are making most of it? Certainly not!

If simply put, the Internet of Things is a group of physical objects something like smart wearable devices connected and capable to transfer data over the internet in no time. By incorporating IoT, all you can enjoy is a reliable, user-friendly secure service for your end-user. Whether you outsource software developer or an entire software development company, this trend to get an edge over their competitors in the market.

6. Cybersecurity

A security breach is one of the major concerns that seems to be plaguing around. And it’s unstoppable! With the entire population shifting on the Internet, the need to keep it secure becomes more urgent. If given careful thought, right from bank transactions to cloud storage, communication, everything requires the internet. And it’s quite scary!

By incorporating trends like cybersecurity, nothing can stop you from keeping all your personal and professional data safe. Moreover, the need to use cybersecurity for the safety of applications and software will increase significantly.

Conclusion

The software development realm is about to make a breakthrough! And trust me surviving in this large, complex and diversified environment is not just easy. My list of predictions is by no means all-inclusive and even though having minimal expertise in each one of them can take you places. In the end, I would suggest doing your analysis as well.
